Victim in crossbow shooting takes witness stand in court
EUREKA-For the first time one of the victims involved in a crossbow shooting in the Samoa dunes took the stand Tuesday morning.
The suspect, Phoenix King, 20 appeared in court for day one of his preliminary hearing and for the first time since the incident he came face to face again with one of the victims, Matthew Lewis, 41. According to police, in Sept. King and his alleged 16-year-old accomplice shot and killed a man with a crossbow and injured his friend Matthew Lewis over a dispute about stolen items from a campsite.
In court, Lewis said after he was shot once in the head, King yelled out loud and told the 16-year-old girl to “shoot him.” Lewis said the arrow shot by the teen grazed his shin and then he threw his knife at the two suspects before being shot again by King just below his kidney.
The preliminary hearing will continue Wednesday morning.
