Victim identified in fatal crash on Halloween night
The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim in Thursday night’s fatal collision on Highway 299 as 78-year-old Manuel Silva of Arcata
California Highway Patrol said it happened just west of Willow Creek around 8 p.m. Silva was heading westbound in a Kia Forte and took a turn where his car traveled into the eastbound lane. Silva crossed the double yellow lines and hit a Subaru driven by Judy Lynn Beaver of Forks of Salmon. Silva was trapped inside and needed extrication. He died shortly after as a result of his injuries. Beaver was wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries.
The Coroner's Office said Silva was returning home from visiting his son in Hoopa.
CHP is investigating what caused Silva to lose control.
