Victim identified in fatal vehicle collision near Weott
WEOTT- The victim of Tuesday's fatal vehicle collision north of Weott has been identified as 21 year old Kasandra Jean Hillaire of Myers Flat. Hillaire was the passenger of a Nissan Frontrunner SUV that collided head on with a tree around 8 Tuesday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the vehicle, Melissa Munsell of Myers Flat allegedly made an unsafe turn causing the vehicle to travel off of the east roadway edge of Highway 101. Munsell sustained major injuries from the collision. Hillaire was pronounced dead on scene.
The collision is still under investigation but CHP says drug impairment does appear to have been a factor. Hillaire's official cause of death is pending additional testing.
