The victim in Sunday’s fatal hit and run collision on Highway 101 has been identified as 29-year-old Blain Allen Kesselring of Eureka.
The California Highway Patrol said Gaurav Mehta was driving a 2011 Toyota Tundra northbound near Sunset Avenue when he struck the Kesselring. Officers said Mehta fled the scene in his vehicle, but stopped just after the SR-299 on-ramp because his car became disabled due to the damage. Mehta allegedly abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. He was found in a nearby hotel and was arrested for felony hit and run and driving under the influence.
Kesselring died on scene. CHP is still investigating the crash.
