Volunteers assemble Thanksgiving baskets for families in need
FORTUNA- Two hundred local families will have a full Thanksgiving dinner thanks to community volunteers.
On Tuesday, volunteers assembled thanksgiving baskets at Fortuna’s Fire Hall. This is the 22nd year the community has come together to make these baskets. The group worked all day packing nearly 600 bags with everything a local family would need to cook for thanksgiving. Volunteers spent the past months raising money to buy the food so that families who cannot afford to purchase the dinner will not be left out of the holiday fun.
“Blessing a family, knowing that everybody's going to get a Thanksgiving dinner and everybody gets to eat,” said Thanksgiving Baskets Coordinator Alyza Elway. “It's Thanksgiving and we should be thankful for what we have and we just want to bless everyone out there.”
