Watershed Heroes project to feature local art, salmon sculpture contest
EUREKA- The Sequoia Park Zoo is calling all North Coast artists with a fondness for fish to help them in creating a salmon sculptor for their newest exhibit.
The Watershed Heroes project is slated to open next summer and will feature salmon, River otters, and Bald eagles. In an effort to bring local art to the display, the zoo is inviting all professional artists to submit a design of a life-sized outdoor salmon sculpture. The sculptures must be able to withstand Humboldt weather conditions year-round and be easily maintained. Zoo staff says the message of the sculpture is to show salmon as a keystone species in our environment.
The zoo says they are on track to open the project next summer and already have all of the underground utilities in. If you are interested in the salmon contest the deadline is Jan. 3rd. For more information you can visit www.sequoiaparkzoo.net.
