Former Humboldt County Sheriff’s Detective passes away at 97

EUREKA – A well-respected former Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy, has passed away after a long and eventful life. Glen Dale Ragon retired as a detective from HCSO in 1976.

Before that, he was born into the North Coast logging industry and had many jobs including Gandy dancer with the railroad, a scaler, bull buck, road engineer and timber buyer. He served in the US Navy as a diver in WW2 and Korea. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He loved horses especially riding Bergie with the sheriff’s posse in many parades.

Doctors told him a kidney disorder would shorten his life and he should have his things in order but he had too many items left on his bucket list and lived to the ripe old age of 97.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dariel and is survived by 2-sons, in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchilden.

Family said they would miss his world class cioppino.
