EUREKA – EPD’S vehicle abatement team has towed hundreds of abandoned cars and doesn’t plan on slowing down.

The volunteer abatement team along with a tow truck operator cleared five vehicles from Eureka’s streets Tuesday.

Rats took up residence in the interior of this abandoned truck at 9th and N Streets. It had also become a dumping ground for yard waste and trash which the team said is common in vehicles they find.

Eureka Police Department formed the team about eighteen months ago to respond to complaints about abandoned and potentially hazardous vehicles. In that time, they’ve removed a total of 519 cars.
