SPANISH FLAT – A snake bite sends one Lost Coast hiker to the hospital.

A female juvenile along with her family were hiking on the Lost Coast trail south of Petrolia at around 4:30PM Monday afternoon when she was bit by a rattle snake.

A helicopter was unable to fly to the area due to fog.

She was able to hike to the roadway and got a ride to Gerald Phelps hospital in Garberville.

It was determined a ‘dry bite’ in which no venom was delivered.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office reminds hikers, hunters and pet owners there have been a high number of rattlesnake sightings this year and to use extra caution when spending time outdoors.
