Suspicious Fire Destroys Old Blue Heron Motel

EUREKA – A thought to be unoccupied motel is damaged by fire and it may have been started by transients.

Around 2:30 Monday afternoon, firefighters were called to the 2200 block of Broadway. Heavy smoke and fire was seen coming from the Blue Heron Motel. When firefighters entered the building it looked like there might have been people living in the structure.

The Floyd and Betty Squire’s property has been shuttered for nearly two years. Scanner traffic reported two females running from the scene in black clothing and headed southbound on Broadway right before flames were observed.

Northbound traffic was diverted using the center lane. No official cause has been established. The structure was a complete loss.
