Officer Driving Prison Transport Van Falls Asleep, Crashes

CARLOTTA – A prison transport van passing through Carlotta crashes Friday morning, causing the driving officer injury.

The officer was traveling westbound on Highway 36 near Golden Gate Drive in a Ford E350 from Weott’s High Rock Inmate Camp.

At the time, there were no inmates in the van.

CHP tells us the driver fell asleep when he ran off the roadway and hit an embankment.

The van then rolled over on to the driver’s side, causing the officer to suffer a broken arm.

He was taken to Saint Joseph’s Hospital.
