Pilot ditches plane in Fortuna

FORTUNA – A pilot has to ditch his aircraft after running into mechanical issues over Fortuna.

Sunday, sheriff’s deputies arrived at Drake Hill Road and Hillcrest Drive and a report of a downed aircraft. The pilot stated he had to land the 1947 North American Navion fixed-wing aircraft in a field. The plane sustained minor damage and the pilot minor injuries.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board were contact. The plane was released to the pilot for removal.
