Yurok Tribe declares state of emergency due to smoke from Eclipse, Orleans Complex fires

SISKIYOU COUNTY – Fires to the north of us are on the move – such as the Eclipse Complex and Orleans Complex, and smoke from these fires in particular have caused the Yurok tribe to declare a state of emergency.

The Eclipse Complex is burning just five miles west of Happy Camp at a size of 96,000 acres and containment is at 25%. 

Meanwhile, the Orleans Complex, twenty miles north of Orleans, is at 26,000 acres and over 50% contained.

The Yurok Reservation is in proximity to these fires which they say have sent a “shroud of wildfire smoke” that has covered the eastern portion of their reservation.

The Yurok Tribe Transit is offering free rides to clean air centers:
