HACHR suspends community cleanups after volunteers threatened

EUREKA – A local non-profit has suspended community clean ups after volunteers received threats of violence.
Humboldt Area Center For Harm Reduction or HACHR began their service cleaning up parks and other places where drug users might leave behind trash.
Volunteers would collect used needles, bandages and even household trash to reduce exposure to bio-hazardous waste.
Executive Director Brandie Wilson said after one volunteer had rocks and other items thrown at him, the center began picking up trash in pairs. She added that they continued to be harassed, so the program is suspended for now.
