Helena-Fork Fires halfway contained, drinking water advisory in effect

TRINITY COUNTY – The Helena and Fork Fires continue to burn in Trinity County, and a drinking water advisory is in effect.

The growth rate of the fires is slowing down since last week – they continue to sit at a combined acreage of just over 21,000 acres and firefighters have reached over 50 percent containment.

Trinity County Environmental Health is warning residents of a spill burn debris spills leaking unknown substances into the Trinity River and Canyon Creek.

They warn residents who use seep wells or other forms of surface water diversion to be cautious of what they could be drinking.

A sample of the water has been sent to lab for analysis.
