Armed man in neighborhood causes elementary school lockdown

EUREKA – Ridgewood School was put on lockdown Monday afternoon due to a reported armed individual in the neighborhood.

Just after 1PM, a man had locked himself inside a residence on the 6100 block of Avalon Drive and was not cooperating with law enforcement.

He threatened suicide and was known to have firearms.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office deputies later took the individual into custody and a weapon was recovered.

The school was on lockdown for around 25 minutes.
