Eureka Homeless Day Use Center will not come to proposed location

EUREKA – A proposed Homeless Day Use Center at the former Runeburg Hall on Union Street in Eureka will not be moving forward.

In an effort to combat the homelessness crisis, causing stress on residents and businesses, the Eureka Police Department requested proposals for a homeless day center pilot project in July.

The Betty Kwan Chinn Foundation stepped forward with an idea to locate the center at 1685 Union Street, but last Thursday at a public meeting at this location, community members expressed significant concerns.

On Monday, the city announced they will not pursue the pilot project at this location, but they will continue to accept proposals.
