Watson selected as next Eureka Police Chief

EUREKA- After a nationwide search, the city of Eureka has selected the next police chief and it’s a job he already has.

Interim police chief Steve Watson was picked to lead the police department. He has served as the last two months as the interim chief after Andrew Mills left for the Santa Cruz Police Department.

Watson has been with the EPD since 2005 and was promoted to captain in 2014. Prior to beginning his career in law enforcement, Watson served in the United States Army.

The city council will be requested to approve the city manager’s appointment of Watson as chief at the next meeting on October 17.
