Ferndale Fire opens doors to children with Autism

Ferndale, Ca., (KIEM)- Fire fighters and emergency medical crews are often the first on the scene during some of life’s most difficult moments, and for children and adults on the autism spectrum, any disruption of a daily routine can be especially rattling.

That’s why Maren Ellis started approaching volunteer fire departments… like the one in Ferndale, about holding open houses that allowed people on the spectrum to meet first responders, and get familiar with their vehicles in a safe and non-threatening place.
