ARCATA – Speeding is never something you want outside your home, and Spear Avenue in Arcata is one area where residents say that problem is only getting worse.

Motorist going too fast is a big concern and some longtime Spear Avenue residents say it’s always been a problem, a problem that isn’t going away.

Beth Frank lives on Spear Ave with her family and last year started a petition signed by her neighbors just asking to get some speed enforcement on their street.

Last night, an Arcata Police Sergeant stopped a driver who was going over two times the posted speed limit, 58 in a 25 mile per hour zone. This is a reason why the APD has increased enforcement in the area.

Residents like Frank appreciate the APD’s effort to make the section of roadway more safe, but they worry it won’t be enough. With increasing traffic flow, they say it will only continue to get worse.
