Fundraiser for Humboldt’s youth

FORTUNA – Humboldt County’s 4-H youth development program held their biggest fund raising event of the year on Sunday.

The Lamb BBQ kicked off in Fortuna with lots of happy visitors. All the funds raised here today went to the Fieg-Tucker scholarship fund for graduating 4-H members as well as running the county program activities and events.  The lamb, pork, goat, and beef here was all raised and prepared by 4-H members for this yearly event. In attendance was the Superintendent of Eureka City Schools, Fred Vanvleck, who says he’s been coming to this fundraiser since he was a kid.

The BBQ’s co-chairman, Madeline Holmes, was one of the many hard workers who helped make this event possible. This is her first year organizing the event and says they planned for about 1,000 people today. She says she is grateful for everything the program has taught her.

The University of California 4-H program helps engage youth in reaching their fullest potential while advancing the field of youth development.
