Humboldt County Sheriff declares local emergency due to communications system failure

EUREKA – With to widespread internet and phone service failures due to downed power lines, Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal has declared a local emergency.

The proclamation states these outages have been “significantly impacting emergency services, government and private agencies providing critical public services and impact local commerce.”

During this time, 911 is available for residents, but local dispatchers have been facing problems transferring between agencies.

If you’re trying to reach the Sheriff’s Office for a non-911 emergency, they recommend you try these numbers:

Non-emergency:

If that’s busy try Garberville:

If you need to contact the jail:
707-441-5129

With the new declaration the county is requesting recovery assistance from the state and federal governments, including funding through the California Disaster Assistance Act and federal Stafford Act.
