“X” Marks the Spot: New Cannabis Tax Proposed in Rio Dell

Rio Dell, Ca., (KIEM)- This November, voters in Rio Dell will decide the fate of a tax that would raise an estimated $980,000 annually for city operations. The tax would be applied only to commercial cannabis operators.

For growers, the tax would levy up to $5.00 per square foot, in addition to any other taxes they would pay ordinarily. The measure would also allow the city to take up between 2% and 10% of gross receipts from businesses. The tax would be approved under ‘Measure X.’

The money then, according to City Manager Kyle Knopp, would be fed back into infrastructure, public safety, and other programs.
