Coast Guard seeking information in laser attacks

MCKINLEYVILLE – The Coast Guard is asking for the public’s help in finding more information on recent laser attacks against their rescue helicopter crews.

The last laser attack took place on Tuesday evening near the airport in McKinleyville, as Humboldt Bay crews were practicing in a helicopter.

A green laser came out from a wooded area, they say about three miles east of McKinleyville, and was “shined directly at the aircraft.”

Laser attacks are a federal crime because they endanger crews, and are punishable by imprisonment.

Anyone who sees someone pointing a laser at an aircraft should call 911.
