EPD teams up with community to collect donations for fire victims

EUREKA – The North Coast continues to give to communities affected by the devastating fires near Ukiah and Santa Rosa.
Eureka Police Department collected donations all day Wednesday and filled a trailer and multiple truck beds by noon Thursday. Items like clothing and personal hygiene products addressed needs for evacuees. The department also collected hay, feed and tools to help livestock and pets.
Pay It Forward Humboldt will distribute donations to evacuation centers in Mendocino and Sonoma Counties.
Eureka Police Chief Watson said it started with an idea to send supplies with one of their teams that will be working with law enforcement, and the community took it from there.
Chief Watson said, “The outpouring from the community has been tremendous. We had supplies being dropped off not only between the hours that we set up but al night long. I showed up this morning and the back lot was filled with pallets and cases of water, dried soup in our classroom. And people have been showing up with more supplies every minute.”

Groups around the North Coast continue to collect donations.
