Humboldt Bay Fire teaches Pacific View Charter students fire safety

EUREKA – It’s National Fire Prevention Week and some local kids had the chance to learn what they can do to keep themselves and their families safe.
A Humboldt Bay Fire engine pulled into the playground at Pacific View Charter School in Eureka Friday afternoon.
Firefighters taught students how to get low to escape a fire and that they should practice having two exits out of their home.
The engine’s captain said it’s important for kids to learn these lessons early.
And community members can learn more about fire prevention at the Humboldt Bay Fire Open House Saturday from 10:00a.m. to 3:00p.m.
Tour the station, see a steam-powered engine up close and watch live demonstrations by your local firefighters.
Battalion Chief Chris Emmons said, “It’s our opportunity to show off who we are and what we do for the community and meet the people out there that we serve.”
