Humboldt County elections officials test equipment to make sure every vote counts

EUREKA – Election day is right around the corner and officials are making sure everything will run smoothly by testing voting equipment.
During the logic and accuracy test, staff members mark sample ballots so that each measure or candidate is selected at least once.
Those ballots run through a high speed scanner then the results are checked against the handwritten ballots to ensure the machines accurately count each one.
Humboldt County Registrar of Voters Kelly Sanders says tests like these offer peace of mind for staff and voters.
Sanders said, “We’re all about testing. We do the logic and accuracy testing prior to the election. We also do extensive testing on the vote by mail ballots before they’re sent out to the voters. So we just want to make sure that everything’s getting tabulated correctly and that everybody’s vote counts.”
