Hoopa Valley Tribal Council members speak out against San Luis Drainage Act

HOOPA – Members of the Hoopa Valley Tribal Council are speaking out against the San Luis Drainage Act.

The bill is underway to being included as part of the National Defense Authorization Act.

If approved by Congress, the act would aim to further divert and distribute additional North Coast water supply to agriculture in Central California – where due to weather conditions and location, have less access to water.

Tribal Councilmembers say the practice is unsustainable for salmon and crab fisheries and are calling on Congress to disapprove the San Luis Drainage Act.
