Fig Twig Market Kicks off the Holiday Season in Ferndale

Ferndale, Ca., (KIEM)- Merry and bright, The Fig Twig Holiday Market, kicks off the season of shopping and giving in Ferndale. Attendees paid admission to browse at the bizarre. That money was donated in part to youth art scholarships. Admission was not the only part of the event that was meant to encourage young artists.

In the “Turf Room” at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds, several young artists sold festive treats, hand made jewelry, and other crafts just like their adult counterparts.

“It’s showing them a good work ethic and it gets them involved in art projects, its great.” Gina Mobley, who is on the committee for Fig Twig market explains.

The pop-up holiday market started small in 2012. Since then, the admission fee has been ear marked for youth causes, Mobley explains. She also says the event has grown significantly, and will be back next year.
