Election 2017: Measure Z & the Peninsula Community Services District

SAMOA/FINNTOWNE/FAIRHAVEN – Residents on the peninsula will decide to approve or reject the formation of a new community services district.
If Measure Z is approved, what is currently operated as the Samoa Peninsula Fire District will dissolve and be replaced by the Peninsula Community Services District.
That district would have the potential to offer additional services such as water, sewer, and parks as well as apply for state grant funding that is unavailable to the fire district.
According to the impartial analysis provided in the sample ballot, residents of Samoa, Fairhaven and Finntowne wouldn’t see an immediate change in fees or services and any new taxes would be approved by voters through the state-mandated Prop 218 process.
