Blue Lake to introduce municipal code for the first time

BLUE LAKE – It’s been three years in the making and Tuesday night, Blue Lake Council will begin the process of adopting the city’s first municipal code.
The document will codify all of the city’s existing ordinances in to one municipal code.
That will make it easier for residents and businesses to obtain information about city policies and streamline regulatory processes for developers.
City Clerk April Souza said it’s been a long road to get to this point. Blue Lake is more than 100 years old and many ordinances exist only on paper so each had to be read and transcribed by hand.
Tuesday’s meeting is the first of a three-step process.
The code will be introduced, then council will hold a public hearing before it is officially adopted at a third meeting.
Council will discuss the code Tuesday night at 7:00 at the Skinner Store Building behind City Hall.
