Fortuna, Ca., (KIEM)- On Thursday night Humboldt County’s Hockey Club took the ice for the second time ever. They’re first game off of a roller rink in club history was Tuesday.

“This is the fist time I know of in the history of Humboldt County that we’ve had ice hockey.” Shawn Hobbs said. He plays left wing for the Humboldt Timber Wolves. The club plays roller hockey almost every Sunday.

Members are males and females of all ages and skill levels that share a passion for the game. For the first time ever, the Humboldt Ice Rink in Fortuna is letting the club use their space. A small rink comes with restrictions, the wolves can only play 3-on-3. Still, they’re thrilled.

“There’s nothing like ice.” Hobbs explained. He and his fellow club members said they want to see hockey become a major sport for Humboldt County. An opportunity for young people to embrace physical activity. They also hope over time to see a permanent ice rink in the area.

Until then, they’ll be strapping on roller blades almost every Sunday at Redwood Acres.
