Three debris fires overnight in Eureka, Humboldt Bay Fire says all were likely intentional

EUREKA – Humboldt Bay Fire responded to three debris fires in the same night and investigators say they were likely set intentionally.

Around 6:15 Monday morning, a recycling bin was engulfed in flames in the alley that runs from C to D between 1st and 2nd Streets. Crews extinguished the fire quickly and no one was injured.

Battalion Chief Chris Emmons said the department responded to two other debris fires Sunday night. The first was on the 1900 block of 5th Street then on the 1800 block of 4th Street.

At only one block and a few hours apart Emmons said they were likely connected and believed the alley fire could have been committed by the same person.

Emmons said all three were likely arson.
