Illegal cell phone use leads to arrest for evading, drug possession

EUREKA – A man was caught using his cell phone while driving but that’s not why he’s behind bars.
Wednesday night just after 9:00 an EPD officer saw 31-year-old Perry Bailey of Eureka talking on a cell phone while driving a Toyota Camry Near Henderson and C Streets.
The officer attempted a traffic stop. Bailey fled, running multiple stop signs and reaching speeds of 50 miles per hour.
Bailey attempted to flee on foot when the Camry stopped near Harris and E. Officers ordered him to the ground and took him in to custody.
During a search EPD found six grams of heroin and two grams of methamphetamine.
Bailey was booked in to Humboldt County Jail.
