Arcata scouts to pick up Christmas trees for donations, free drop-off sites available

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA. – Dried out Christmas trees are a fire hazard, but there are free and discounted options in Humboldt County for getting rid of yours in a timely manner.

While a beautiful decoration during the holiday season, as Christmas trees dry out they become increasingly dangerous in homes.

That’s why there are free drop off locations, and for those who can’t transport their own tree, local scouts are stepping up to the plate to help out.

Arcata Cub Scouts will be picking up trees this year in the Arcata, McKinleyville, and Eureka areas on December 30th, 31st and January 6th and 7th between 10AM and 4PM for small donations to their troop.

To set up an appointment, you can call or text 707-440-9272 or shoot them an email at arcatacubscouts@gmail.com

Just be sure to include your address, phone number and preferred pick up date, and they’ll get back to you to confirm.

Or if you have the ability to transport your tree, these locations will be accepting drop offs for free through mid-January:

Eel River Disposal
965 river walk Dr., Fortuna

Humboldt County Waste Management Authority
1059 W. Hawthorne St., Eureka

Trinidad’s Murphy Market
1 Main St, Trinidad

Just make sure to remove all tinsel and decorations.
