Christmas Day chase: wanted felon arrested with suspected heroin

EUREKA, CA. – A wanted felon is arrested with suspected heroin in his pocket following a Christmas day chase in Eureka.

The wanted suspect, 39-year-old Matthew Robert Painter, was walking down the road Monday afternoon at 2PM on California Street.

That’s where he was spotted by a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy, who got out of his patrol car and confronted him.

Painter made a run for it, and fled down the street as the deputy got back in his car and chased him on to Hodgson Street.

The suspect then reached Ingly Street and fled into a wooded area, inciting a foot chase for about 100 yards.

He eventually stopped and complied with the officer.

Painter was found with four grams of suspected heroin in his pant pocket, and was booked into the Humboldt County Jail on multiple charges including possession of heroin, resisting a peace officer, and having an outstanding felony warrant.
