Humboldt Bay Fire Marshal retires

EUREKA – Humboldt Bay Fire has some big shoes to fill. Fire Marshal Ed Laidlaw served his last day on the job Thursday.
Laidlaw started as a volunteer in the department while working as a manager for Coca-Cola. He became a full time firefighter in 1999. Laidlaw worked his way up from there then earned the role of Fire Marshal three years ago.
In that job, Laidlaw enforced local and state fire codes and inspected buildings to make sure they were safe for everyone.
He’s also the person who made sure Eureka’s annual fireworks display went off without any problems.
Laidlaw said he’ll still be around the area and is most proud he could help businesses implement projects while keeping people safe.
