Fortuna to apply for park expansion grant, residents play with ideas

FORTUNA, CA. – Recreational parks in Fortuna may be expanding, and the public is weighing on what they would like to see.

The Friendly City is applying for a state grant to purchase a parcel adjacent to Newburg Park, as well as 7.2 acres of the east portion of the Eel River Levee, near Riverwalk Drive.

At a public workshop, recommendations were gathered from residents.

Some requests included an all-weather field in the Newburg Park area for children involved in outdoor sports.

At the Riverwalk parcel, ideas included a dog park, non-motorized river access, a picnic area, and an outdoor concert arena.

The grant application is due mid-February, and the city will be accepting ideas and comments until January 22nd.

You can send your ideas to Jennifer Ourique at jourique@ci.fortuna.ca.us
