Suspect in Eureka assault, attempted kidnapping identified

EUREKA, CA. – Eureka police confirm the suspect in an attempted kidnapping and assault, and the police chief shows support for the victim.

47-year-old Rebecca Ware is suspected of trying to steal a truck and baby before attacking the mother on Sunday morning.

The victim shared an extensive recollection of the attack in a video – explaining that when she loaded her child in the back of her truck on V Street at about 10:30AM, the suspect ran across the street and attempted to steal the truck.

Upon telling her to get out, the suspect assaulted the mother, causing non-life threatening injuries.

Police Chief Steve Watson messaged the victim saying, “My heart goes out to you and your loved ones. I want you to know the suspect, Rebecca Ware, was arrested by our officers and booked into the county jail on six charges including felony assault, attempted vehicle theft, resisting a peace officer, probation violation and other offenses… Ware is on probation out of another county and “other factors” may have contributed to her criminal behavior.”

The victim tells News Channel 3 she intends on pressing charges.
