Wildlife on Wildwood: Mountain Lion Joins Main Street Sculptures

Rio Dell, Ca., (KIEM)- A mountain lion is sighted in Rio Dell. A metal mountain lion that is. In October of 2017 local junk artist and sculptor Dan McCauley installed his first piece in Rio Dell. The great horned owl, perched on a burnt out tree on Wildwood Avenue is no longer alone. Installed today, McCauley’s mountain lion is made from discarded materials. There are grates on its chest, and horseshoes on its side.

The mountain lion will not be the last piece to take one of the pedestals installed on the main drag in Rio Dell. It will soon be joined by a bull elk and grizzly bear. The public art pieces are paid for by donations from Pacific Gas and Electric, the Headwaters Fund, McLean Foundation, and Root 101 Nursery. The public donations paid for the installations in their entirety. No city funds were used.

KIEM was there when the Lion was under construction, view that story here: http://kiem-tv.com/2017/12/15/welding-wildlife-one-local-sculptor-lighting-humboldt-art-scene/
