Fortuna police seek Measure Z funding renewal

FORTUNA, CA. – Fortuna police are calling on the county to renew two of their Measure Z-funded officers.

Measure Z is a half-cent sales tax that Humboldt voters approved in 2014 for public safety and county services.

Since then, some of these funds have been directed to the Fortuna Police Department.

With it, they hired a Student Resource Officer for schools in the Eel River Valley.

Officer Lindsey Frank notably helped during a lockdown in the Ferndale area, during the escape of a prison inmate last year.

They also used funds to hire an officer to take part in the Drug Task Force, who has assisted in busts that have seized over five million dollars in illegal drugs.

Fortuna police will ask Humboldt Supervisors next month to renew Measure Z funding for these positions.
