Small fire causes McKinleyville Safeway shoppers to evacuate

MCKINLEYVILLE, CA. – A scare for store shoppers – the McKinleyville Safeway is evacuated Tuesday evening after a small fire breaks out in a backroom loft.

Store employees quickly got all customers out of the store to safety when the fire broke out just before 8PM.

Multiple agencies responded, and the fire was quickly diminished.

There were no injuries.

Arcata Fire Battalion Chief Rick Gomes says he was proud of the efficient response.

The exact cause of the store fire is still unknown.
