Eureka man accused of hit-and-run, brandishing sawed-off shotgun at officer

EUREKA, CA. – A local man is behind bars and is facing multiple charges stemming from a Eureka hit-and-run.

27-year-old Andrew White was driving an SUV early Wednesday, when he hit a stop sign and kept driving.

Police were called about the hit-and-run and were responding to W and Russell Street when they saw the GMC driving in the wrong lane of Harrison Avenue.

Officers say White lost control of the SUV due to a flat tire, and hit a retaining wall near Harrison and 16th Street.

The officer says White then got out of the vehicle and pointed a sawed-off shotgun at him, then took off running.

White dropped his shotgun, and was caught minutes later after a short struggle with the officer.

Police say he was extremely intoxicated.

His charges include possessing a sawed off shotgun, brandishing the weapon at a peace officer, felony reckless evading, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, DUI, resisting arrest, hit-and-run, and driving on a suspended license.
