ARCATA, CA. – A controversial Arcata rancher suspected of animal cruelty is behind bars.

A large-scale mutli-agency raid was conducted Monday at owner Ray Christie’s ranch properties in Arcata and Crannell.

Officers from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Fish and Wildlife, the District Attorney’s Office, DHHS, and more were on scene.

Christie’s ranch in the Arcata Bottoms has been speculated for years over having at times mounds of dead cattle.

Law enforcement says community complaints are what prompted the investigation…

“Your voices are heard. We take these sorts of complaints very seriously. We have several agencies here investigating the consequences of what’s going on here. We’ve received numerous complaints and it’s been an ongoing issue for years,” said Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, Samantha Karges.
