Eureka City Council passes syringe ordinance

EUREKA., Ca (KIEM)- Eureka City Council has voted yes to the syringe management ordinance. Only council members Kim Bergel and Austin Allison voted against the ordinance on the basis of wanting more time to improve and strengthen the language.

As it stands, the ordinance is designed to ensure syringe exchange programs communicate how many syringes are being handed out and disposed of, as well as mandate weekly clean-ups. Other aspects of the ordinance include regulation and enforcement, but the overall objective is to reduce syringe litter while abiding by state law.
