Arcata, Ca., (KIEM)-  Staff at the Mad River Adult Day Health Center were faced with an impossible task earlier this week. They would have to inform the veterans they serve, that they no longer qualified for care.

The center offers some medical care, physical therapy, and social activities and services for adults who require personal care. It functions like a non-profit, funded by organizations like the Veteran’s Affairs Office. According to an administrator and RN, the funding stopped sometime ago after an official at the San Francisco office retired.

That’s when staff and community partners stepped in, knocking on doors until services were restored.
