Are you really ready for a rabbit?

MCKINLEYVILLE – This Easter Sunday, many families will be giving gifts to their children and some of those gifts might be rabbits. However, that may not be the best idea for every family. Bunnies who go to homes who aren’t prepared for them often end up back in the store, or worse, released.

On Monday we talked to a McKinleyville feed store that told us some rabbit habits to be aware of – first off, they do have sensitive digestive systems and the stereotypical carrots and lettuce actually aren’t good for them.

If their hutch isn’t properly taken care of they can easily get sick, and like a dog or cat they need a vet, too. Rabbits also can be aggressive and territorial. If you are considering getting a rabbit this Easter, it’s recommended you do your research first.
