Shelter Cove man found guilty of second degree murder sentenced 15 years to life

EUREKA, CA. – Humboldt County Courthouse Judge Christopher Wilson sentenced 46-year-old Eric Lively on Tuesday to fifteen years to life in prison.

Eric Lively was on trial for striking and killing his neighbor, Jesse Earl Simpson.

Simpson died on May 3 of 2017, when Lively ran into him with his picktruck in Shelter Cove.

Lively had argued that Simpson jumped in front of his truck, but prosecutors concluded lively had the option of turning around.

Witnesses said Lively openly discussed killing Simpson.

Lively had previously filed a motion for a new trial, but Judge Wilson found no juror misconduct, and that request was denied.
