Eureka, Ca., (KIEM)- Sometimes social stories are an effective way to communicate. They inspire empathy and understanding. That’s why the people at Families Advocating Autism Now (FAAN) started their annual book drive. They’re hoping to make sure everyone has access to books that make the autism spectrum less abstract, promoting acceptance and understanding.

FAAN purchases books about autism. They donate those books in turn to libraries and schools. The literature they collect is diverse. There are books for preschoolers and college students, YA and board books. This year FAAN has even added bilingual books to the selections they’re donating.

The families at FAAN reach out to local schools and libraries, asking about their interest. Then they give two to three books to each organization. The money used to purchase titles comes from the fundraising FAAN does all year long.
