Grape fire grows to 150 acres

REDDING, Calif. – Due to an increase in fire activity, the Sims Restoration Project area prescribed burn was declared a wildfire. This incident is referred to as the Grape Fire and a local Type 3 incident management organization has assumed command.

The Six Rivers and the Shasta-Trinity National Forests are working together to safely suppress the Grape fire while keeping firefighters safe and protecting the public, private property, water systems, PG&E transmission lines and natural forest stands. Fuels across both forests are drying out sooner than expected which has led to an increase fire behavior for this time of year.

168 firefighters are utilizing engines, hand crews, fallers and dozers to construct a line around the fire. An air attack plane and type 1 helicopter will also be on the incident today.  The weather forecast appears to be favorable with cooling temperatures and a chance of rain which has helped moderate the growth of the fire.

We would like to remind the public that fire engines and personnel will be using County Roads 301 and 311, locally known as Hyampom Road and South Fork Road, to access the fire. For your own safety and the safety of the firefighters, all visitors are being advised to avoid the immediate area.
